ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
This position is accountable to the Deputy Superintendent, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for assisting in the coordination and management of the Facilities Management Department of the Worcester Public Schools through sound management, leadership, contact with other administrators, and action plans consistent with policies of the school district to provide the best educational services available.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for serving as the chief executive of the Facilities Department. Responsible for managing the overall planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of grounds and school facilities in the entire school district.
Responsible for supervising and directing all immediate subordinates, such as Coordinator of Maintenance & Custodial Services, Custodial and Facilities Supervisors, Environmental Coordinator, and Coordinator of Support Services.
Responsible for maintaining recordkeeping of all items concerning the Facilities Department, including building plans and specifications, bids and contract specifications, security, fire alarm systems, environmental management, and custodial and maintenance personnel.
Responsible for assisting in developing the divisional budget, goals and objectives, and action plans consistent with the goals and objectives of the school system.
Responsible for serving as chair of the Environmental Management steering committee.
Responsible for acting as the liaison between the School Department and the City of Worcester in all school-related construction and facilities projects.
Responsible for supporting the district’s efforts with the Green Worcester Sustainability & Resilience Strategic Plan
Responsible for contributing to the coordination and integration of assessments and special studies within and among the divisions of Facilities, Human Resources, and Finance.
Responsible for contributing to and maintaining good public relations for the school district through timely and appropriate processing of personnel, parent, and community members’ inquiries.
Responsible for reporting to the Superintendent of Schools and the Deputy Superintendent, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer on any Facilities condition which impacts the health and/or safety of children, personnel, or the general public and accountable for securing safety certificates for each school building as required.
Responsible for serving as a resource to the School Committee, Standing Committees, and Superintendent of Schools on matters such as Facilities, negotiations, etc.
Responsible for serving as management’s divisional representative in all aspects of employment including, but not limited to, hiring, rehiring, promoting, demoting, transferring, disciplining, and terminating personnel within the Facilities area.
Responsible for coordinating the school district’s efforts to comply with federal, state, and local legislation by interacting with various departments, boards, and commissions on issues such as environment, air pollution, asbestos, lead paint, architectural barriers, reasonable accommodation, fire, and police safety.
Responsible for overseeing designing and engineering documents relative to Facilities remodeling and/or construction.
Responsible for assisting programs designed to ensure security in all school facilities.
Responsible for establishing a strong network of communication with principals to ensure an orderly program of school maintenance.
Responsible for directing the Coordinator of Maintenance & Custodial Services to ensure that all buildings are properly staffed and all personnel properly supervised.

Job Requirements
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Facilities Management, or a related field.
Minimum of five years’ experience in Facilities Management, including supervision of employees, construction management, and environmental compliance management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical and/or complex concepts in an understandable manner.
Ability to respond to emergencies 24/7
Demonstrated experience in the use of technology.Demonstrated experience in prioritizing and performing tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability in advising and directing subordinates in the performance of their work and in the development of their abilities.
Demonstrated ability in preparing annual budget, including capital items; demonstrated ability in monitoring approved expenditures in accordance with approved budget.
Ability to work effectively with all members of the school community, including School Committee, administrators, teachers, parents and the community.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Massachusetts Construction Supervisors License.
Thorough understanding of building and accessibility codes.
Experience in Massachusetts School Building Authority-funded projects.WORK YEAR: 12 Month Work Year
WORK DAY: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Monday – Friday) and on-call as necessary.
