The Mass Facilities Administrators Association (MFAA) certification program is a professional credentialing process for facilities leaders. It combines competency-based experience with credential/test-based recognition, so applicants earn credit for actual performance and responsibility, not simply time-in-role.
For applicants who meet CFA requirements except the higher experience threshold. AFMs are encouraged to reapply for CFA once experience requirements are met.
For experienced facilities administrators who meet the full points and experience standard. Certification is awarded when your application demonstrates breadth and depth across required categories, meeting the minimum point threshold.
Certification is earned through a structured points system. Applicants submit proof of education, licensure/certifications, and experience across core facilities management categories.
CFA requires a minimum of 90 points out of 135 available.
Points are awarded based on relevance, impact, and responsibility level. Partial credit may be awarded when evidence is solid but not comprehensive.
Evaluation categories include areas such as:
Facilities Operations • Maintenance Management • Personnel Management • Legal/Regulatory Compliance • Purchasing & Contracting • Strategic Planning • Budgeting/Finance • Licenses & Certifications
