City of Malden Maintenance / HVAC Technician

Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for general break/fix/repair duties as required by the Director or his designee. Also responsible for all aspects of mechanical building maintenance with respect to heating and cooling. Able to performs a full range of plumbing and HVAC duties including the installation, renovation, repair and preventive maintenance in support of the overall maintenance of municipal and school buildings. Work is performed in compliance with Massachusetts Plumbing and HVAC codes and is checked while in progress or upon completion to ensure it complies with accepted standards and codes. Snow removal of exterior grounds using snowblower, shovel, Bobcat or other means necessary is required. Other duties as assigned by the Public Facilities Director and/or his designee.
Qualifications: General knowledge of HVAC and plumbing trades related to commercial building maintenance and repair; knowledge of a variety of building maintenance procedures and techniques; knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skills in following safety practices and recognizing hazards; skill in using hand and light power tools; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with School and City staff as well as the ability to communicate effectively. Additionally, the candidate must have a thorough understanding of the trade and be knowledgeable in the use of all trade tools and instruments. The work schedule requires some early morning, night, weekend, stand by and emergency work. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work with little supervision, possess strong attention to detail and strong general mechanical skills.
High School diploma or equivalent; five years of experience working as a professional plumber or HVAC technician in a commercial or industrial setting; possession of a valid driver’s license and a valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts Plumbers & Gasfitters Journeyman License, or Refrigeration Technician (HVAC) License.
