Rate $27.12/hr
Job Description:
To provide students/staff with a safe, comfortable and functional environment in which to learn and develop. Day to day tasks consist of cleaning, maintenance, repair and upkeep programs of the buildings and grounds on a daily basis and the ability to adapt to changing technologies with appropriate training provided.Qualifications
● High School Diploma or equivalent
● Valid class D Massachusetts drivers license
● Successful completion of a Criminal Record check (CORI) and
fingerprinting
● Five (5) years experience in building maintenance trades or five (5) years experience in the specific licensed trade required.
● Licensed technicians must have a current Massachusetts License in the specific trade (Masters preferred) with a thorough knowledge of the Code of Mass. Regulations (C.M.R) for that specific trade
● Ability to perform emergency and routine repairs and preventative
maintenance
● Ability to work effectively in a fast – paced environment
● Good oral and written skills
● Demonstrated the ability to perform a wide variety of skilled and
unskilled maintenance tasks using hand or power tools and related
equipment to maintain buildings and equipment as detailed in the
performance responsibilities as outlined below.
Responsibilities
● Perform emergency repairs to school buildings and equipment
● Participate in semi -annual and annual preventative maintenance
inspections
● Keep supervisors informed of the progress of the work and any significant developments as they occur
● Identify and correct health and safety issues in a timely manner
● Perform building security and heating and refrigeration checks as requested ● Keep work areas free and clear of debris
● Perform miscellaneous related duties as required by the Facilities
Supervisors
● Perform corrective action and preventative maintenance regarding building systems
● Assist in the development, ongoing updating, and implementation of the building preventive maintenance plan
● Estimate and obtain materials and supplies required to complete an
assignment according to established guidelines
● Assure compliance with building, health and safety codes
● Maintain records of work performed including labor and materials used; receive work orders and determine priorities
● Work from plans, oral instruction, sketches, and blueprints as well as assist the Supervisors with the review of construction documents for both new and renovation projects
● Drive a town vehicle to work sites and check regularly the oil, water, fuel levels and tires.
● Clean, maintain and repair shop tools and equipment
● Perform related duties as may be assigned by the supervisors
● Perform a wide variety of general maintenance works, either related to an employees license or not, regarding the maintenance and repair of school facilities and equipment
● Work independently with little direction
● Prioritize, schedule, and review work while meeting such schedules and timeline and maintain records of work
● Effectively and safely operate a variety of tools and equipment per specific trade or in general use
● Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with co-workers, administrators, faculty and staff, and in the public
● Observe legal and defensive driving practices while in the operation of a town vehicle
● Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor
Physical and Environmental Demands
● Regular periods of physical activity require the ability to stand for long periods, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, and to lift, carry, and position
objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The ability to make swift and responsible decisions in an emergency or hazardous situations. An employee must have the ability to use hands and arms in order to safely operate equipment and perform the required tasks.
● Maintenance is responsible for plowing all lots, and ice removal.
Candidates may endure long hours or change of hours due to inclement
weather.
● Frequent periods of outside work in all extremes of weather. Interior work where the employee may be exposed to loud noise, extremes of heat and cold, and the use of various chemicals some of which may be hazardous
and require special handling. Some work may be on ladders, scaffolding or aerial lifts. Work in confined spaces is routine.Respond to:
