    The Maintenance Worker performs a wide range of skilled duties in support of the overall
    preventative maintenance and repair of all school buildings.
    Reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Director (FMD), the Maintenance Worker’s primary
    responsibility is the repair and maintenance of all non-MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
    building systems, such as floor and wall repairs, door hardware/lock repairs and general
    carpentry work. Work is performed in compliance with construction industry standards and the
    state building code and is checked in progress or upon completion to ensure it complies with
    accepted standards and codes. The incumbent performs assigned tasks without close
    supervision, following established procedures, and is given direct and detailed instructions on
    new and different assignments. The incumbent must have a thorough understanding of the trade
    and be knowledgeable in the use of all trade tools and instruments. The work schedule requires
    some early morning, night, weekend, stand by and emergency work, including snow
    plowing/snow removal.

    1. Reads and interprets plans, sketches, blueprints, drawings, operations/maintenance
    manuals, and other specifications and determines dimension and quantities of material
    required.
    2. Prepares cost estimates and orders relevant supplies, equipment and materials required
    for performance of duties. Establishes the repair projects’ schedule of labor hours.
    3. Utilizes a computerized maintenance management system to obtain work order
    assignments and to make notification changes when assigned work orders are complete
    or, status otherwise changes. Reviews department email daily and prepares simple word
    processing documents such as parts lists, maintenance instructions and other minor
    correspondence.
    4. Constructs, installs, maintains and repairs or remodels buildings, equipment, furniture
    and fixtures made of wood, brick, concrete or similar construction materials including
    skilled rough and finished carpentry duties; locksmith duties; and erecting and
    disassembling staging, scaffolding, ladders, platforms and rigging.
    5. Works with the FMD in developing long-range preventive maintenance plans. Implements
    and performs regular preventive maintenance to extend service life of building systems.
    6. Works with the FMD in developing long-range equipment replacement plans. Maintains
    and reviews inventory of system-owned tools, equipment and supplies and recommends
    supplies and equipment for purchase.
    7. Ensures safe work conditions are maintained and that all non-MEP building systems
    operated by the School are functioning as intended.
    8. Instructs custodial staff in simple general maintenance procedures that do not require a
    licensed craftsman.
    9. Maintains all hand and power tools in good operating condition and keeps a clean and
    orderly work/storage area.
    10. Assists other licensed tradesmen in the Facilities Maintenance Department with their work
    as deemed appropriate by the FMD, or by participation in larger projects requiring
    multiple trades.
    11. Maintains licensure and keeps abreast of all safety and building codes, asbestos laws and
    guidelines relating to general construction by attending professional development
    seminars and workshops.
    12. Performs all other related as assigned
