ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC BUILDINGS WATERTOWN, MA
The City of Watertown is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to fill the role of Assistant Director of Public Buildings. The Assistant Director will supervise and manage a department staff of 37 employees (31 custodians and 6 maintenance employees); coaches, counsels, and manages performance of direct reports. Takes immediate and strategic measures to improve the performance of the workforce; initiates personnel actions as required including training, motivation assistance, and discipline. .
Works closely with principals and department heads to supervise custodial staff and ensure the appropriate daily cleaning; complete inspections and evaluations of all maintained space on a regular basis; establishes and provides training for all new and existing custodial personnel; researches new cleaning methods, techniques, equipment, and supplies to make recommendations for improving custodial efficiency.
Arranges for and manages appropriate third-party contractor support, including but not limited to roofing, plumbing, HVAC and controls, electric, fire alarms, fire protection, generators, pest control, and elevators. Secures estimates for goods and services and works closely with the Purchasing Office to ensure that the department is in compliance with public procurement laws, MGL Chapters 149, 30B, 30-39M. Enters, assigns, and tracks work orders in the department’s maintenance management system; ensures maintenance requests are completed in a timely manner and internal and external customers are satisfied.
Serves as a supervisory leader and member of the Snow Removal Team and ensures weather- related coverage of schools and public buildings; ensures that sidewalks and entrances are shoveled and salted prior to the arrival of staff and customers. Monitors and approves attendance, timekeeping, vacation schedules, and buildings openings and closings, worker performance; ensures facilities have adequate coverage and provide feedback to employee as needed.
<u>Recommended Minimum Qualifications</u>:
High school degree; 7+ years of progressive experience and responsibility in the building operations and custodial field; 3+ years of successful supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.”
SALARY: $90,218.56 annually non-aligned position with an excellent benefit package
