• MFAA Feb. 15th FF&E Institute
    February 15, 2018
    8:00 am - 1:30 pm

The MFAA is proud to bring to you our next series in our 1/2 day training institutes for this year. With summer projects ramping up, and MSBA helping so many of us with new buildings, we wanted to provide a series on F+FF&E (Finishes + Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment). What architects are specifying for finishes, how to maintain those finishes, what are the current trends in furniture and why, how to manage moving all the old furniture out and the new furniture in…..

8am – 8:45: Check in Continental Breakfast

8:45am: Bodies in Motion, Brains in Motion – Movement Makes Kids Better Learners
VS Furniture is proud to have Dr. Breithecker present to MFAA. Dr. Breithecker is the head of the Federal Institute on the Development of Posture and Exercise and a member of “Ergonomics for Children & Educational Environment” (ECEE). Dr. Breithecker is widely published on the subject of Ergonomics for Children and Human Workstations. As an international expert he has been presenting all over Europe, Asia, Indonesia, North America, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.

9:30am: Moving and Move Management Does and Dont’s
Calvin Highfield, Presiden of Diamond Relocation, will be sharing with us his years of experience as certified vendor on OSD’s state contract for moving and move management services. Calvin’s insight provides us a great opportunity for us to learn best practices for creating move bid specifications, commonly missed items, and effective planning and management of moving projects.

10:20am: COFFEE (Very Important)

10:30am: MFAA Panel Presentation: Finishes…..Bloody Finishes!!!!
Several MFAA Members have stepped up to put together a panel presentation on new finishes that are being specified for our projects, the benefits of some of those choices, and the headaches and heartburn associated with others. 90% of projects are always great, but the devil is in the details. Panel members: Wayne Miller (Hudson), Greg Lefter (Assabet Valley), Joe McDonough (Wellesley), & Ken Wertz (MFAA ED).

11:15am: Maintaining New Finishes and What You Will Need
J.P. Mayo from Hillyard is a long time friend of the MFAA and cleaning industry rock star for best practices and cutting edge technology. He, along with his team, have the benefit of seeing the end result in hundreds of schools across New England and are willing to share lessons learned, what to avoid, how to ensure the products installed will endure the rigor and life cycle struggles of our public buildings.

12noon: MBSA’s FF&E Data Collection Pilot Program
Did you ever wonder where you can find cost information to help your client/district understand the amount of money that it may need in addition to the MSBA’s contribution to outfit its new school with FF&E? Are you interested in lump sum costs spent by districts for equipment purchases in new schools (custodial, kitchen, art, music equipment etc.)? Or a listing of districts to contact for additional information on what they purchased for equipment in a certain category? Do you think your district’s Superintendent, Principal or other School Building Leaders would be interested in seeing samples of popular makes and models of classroom seating but you do not know how to easily find the seating manufacturers that schools are buying? Would you find it useful to know what costs school districts are paying for popular manufacturers’ seating and other furniture items based on quantities purchased and the procurement method used?

Barbara Hansberry and her team from MSBA will share with us this amazing tool they have created and how it can benefit all schools in MA.

12:30pm: Lunch…..mmmmmmmm

Come join us the morning of Thursday, February 15th at the Double Tree in Milford for this amazing professional development opportunity.
